[Class 80 (ii)] [Also in Group XXVII] In an ignition timing or like coupling a driving member 11, which has external splines 19 for engagement with the engine; is journalled upon a sleeve 28 that surrounds a shaft 10, the other end of the latter being splined to receive a driven member 12. To provide for relative angular displacement of the driving and driven members 11, 12, their inner ends engage with two pairs of gear segments 15, 16, one of each of which are pivoted upon diametricallyopposed pins 14. A rotary support 13 is mounted upon the pins 14 and is interposed between the two pairs of segments 16, 16 which are formed with weighted arms 17, 18 each of the former pair being heavier than each of the latter. Mounted upon the periphery of the rotary support 13 are adjustable rings 40, 41 that have leaf-springs 42 riveted thereto and bearing upon the outer surfaces of the two pairs of arms 17, 18, so that the spring leverage on the latter may be altered by moving the position of rings 40, 41, in respect to the arms 17, 18. At a predetermined speed centrifugal force causes the arms 17 to pivot outwardly thereby causing the driven member 12 and in consequence the ignition to be advanced. At a given higher speed the two arms 18 pivot outwardly and the driven member 12 is caused to be retarded compared to the driving member 11, thereby giving rise to retarded ignition. |
