CULTURE MEDIUM AND ITS USE

It was found that in cell cultures cyclodextrin shows no or little cytotoxicity against the cell growth and that lipophilic substances such as unsaturated fatty acids and lipophilic vitamins exert such effects as a cell growth promoting effect and accelerating effect on the productivity of valuable products when both substances are present simultaneously or in the form of an inclusion complex. A culture medium which is serum-free or has a reduced serum content or a substitute composition for serum for a culture medium comprising cyclodextrin and at least one lipophilic nutrient substance, said cyclodextrin and said lipophilic nutrient substance being preferably in the form of inclusion complex between them, is provided.
