PURPOSE:To obtain a magnetic recording medium which ensures continuous lubrication effect for a long period of time, running characteristic and wear- proof characteristic by forming ZrO2 film having lubricant on a magnetic layer. CONSTITUTION:In a magnetic recording medium, a magnetic layer is formed on a non-magnetic supporting member. A ZrO2 film having lubrication agent is formed on the magnetic layer. This ZrO2 film has thickness of 5 to 50nm and is formed by the sol-gel method. Moreover, coating amount of lubricant is set to 0.5 to 100mg/m<2> and thus lubricant is composed of a compound mainly consisting of perfluoropolyether and a compound having a long-chained hydrocarbon group. Thereby, excellent lubrication characteristic can be maintained under various application conditions and lubrication effect can be maintained for a period of time, thus resulting in a magnetic recording medium ensuring excellent running characteristic, wear-proof characteristic and durability. |
