摘要 PURPOSE:To ensure superior high-temp. strength, high-temp. toughness, heat resistance, thermal shock resistance and resistance to collision with foreign matter by regulating the open porosity of a sintered compact of a fiber reinforced composite material reinforced with long fibers to a prescribed value or below and the amt. of glass and alloy phases existing at the interfaces between fiber and particle and between particles to a prescribed value or below. CONSTITUTION:The open porosity of a sintered compact and the amt. of glass and alloy phases existing at the interfaces between fiber and particle and between particles are regulated to <=4vol.% and <=1vol.%, respectively, by combining a reactive sintering method with a metallic polymer impregnating method, CVI and HIP. Long fibers of 0.1-1mm diameter are contained in the sintered compact by 10-70vol.%. A preform of long fibers, paper, felt, a nonwoven fabric or a two- or three-dimensional woven fabric is formed, metal powder or a powdery mixture of metal powder with particles and short fibers of at least one kind of ceramic such as SiC, Si3 N4 or TiC is impregnated into the preform and reactive sintering is carried out. A metallic polymer is impregnated into the resultant sintered compact, reactive sintering is carried out again and nitride or carbide is formed by CVI in the residual pores in the matrix to produce the objective sintered compact.
