PURPOSE: To detect oxygen in a very small measuring area with high sensitivity in real time by incorporating a specific compound from which electrical measurement can be made when the compound comes into contact with an oxygen gas in an electrode as a reactant. CONSTITUTION: A compound analogous to iron-FDAT in an electric charge controlling state is the optimum as a reactant to be incorporated in an electrode. Oxygen and nitrogen oxides are detected and determined by bringing or adsorbing an oxygen gas or a series of nitrogen oxides into contact with or to this iron-FDAT chelate compound. Namely, the carbon fiber bundle 5 of a first electrode is wound in an insulating tubular member 1 composed of a silicon tube together with an ion exchange film and the space between the bundle 5 and an in-tube film is filled up with Ringer's solution 4. In addition, a carbon string 3 which has been dipped in the solution in which iron-FDAT is dissolved in advance is arranged as a second electrode on the inside of the in-tube film. Finally, a redox type sensor is obtained for detection by closing the front end of the member 1 so as to prevent the flowing out of the solution 4. Therefore, oxygen and nitrogen oxides in a very small measuring area can be easily detected with high sensitivity in real time. |
