Polymer=based binder for stabilising railway track and track tamping machine

A rail track tamping machine has tamping picks for feeding binder material into the ballast. Each pick has a shaft(3) above the tamping foot(5) with one or more longitudinal cut-outs(4) at the sides surrounded by a collar(7) which acts as a seal against the top and bottom of the shaft. An inlet(9) for binder is provided in either the collar(7) or pick and outlets(10) for injecting binder into the ballast are located in the collar(7). A ballast binder for use with the tamping machine cures after injection into the ballast without additional components.
