The test head (1) has an ultrasonic transducer (3) using a number of individually controlled transducer elements, mounted on a coupling block (5) which is divided into different regions (5A,5B) via acoustic separation zones (7), each coupled to at least one transducer element. The ultrasonic transducer may be provided by a piezoelectric body (11) with respective electrodes (15,21) on its opposite sides, overlapping one another at defined points for providing the individual transducer elements.
