<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an industrial method for producing alcohols having hydroxy or an alkoxy group at their β-positions. <P>SOLUTION: This method for producing the alcohols expressed by formula (3) is provided by reacting an epoxy compound expressed by formula (1) with water or alcohol expressed by formula (2) in the presence of a silicate containing at least one element selected from a group consisting of the elements of 5th and 6th groups of the Periodic Table, as a constituting element. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI |
