An electrical machine (16) is connected with drive shaft (30) of engine (12) through a transfer box (18) and actuatable clutches (50a,50b) is arranged between the engine and transfer box. The torque in the drive train (11) of vehicle is controlled by interaction of the clutches such that drive oscillations are suppressed depending on the state of tensile or axial load in the transfer box. The clutches are operated with clutch torque lower than torque peaks of cyclic fluctuating drive torque of the engine.
