An image reproducing apparatus, a method for controlling the same, and a PVR(Private Video Recorder) are provided to make it possible to perform a trick reproduction function, thereby easily finding out the desired location of an image. A scene change detector(23) analyzes an image signal and detects a scene change frame. A controller(25) controls the trick reproduction speed of the image signal so that a reproduction time of the scene change frame is extended longer than a reproduction time of another image frame when a trick reproduction function is selected. A scene change index generator(22b) generates location information of the scene change frame and stores the location information in a memory.
