PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve print quality by reducing jaggies due to the oblique movement of a recording paper. SOLUTION: The printing method which transfers the recording paper in a subsidiary scanning direction, detects the passage of the side edges of the recording paper on a transfer route and prints one line after another inside the main scanning position of the side edges by a print head in which a plurality of printing elements are linearly arranged in the main scanning direction, sets a subsequent side edge detected line number Y<SB>k+1</SB>=Y<SB>1</SB>+X<SB>k</SB>(k=1, X<SB>K</SB>: the number of lines for a subsequent side edge detected line number), detachedly from an initial printed scanning direction line number Y<SB>1</SB>=1, sequentially sets by (Expression 1), sets a subsequent side edge detected line number and increases or decreases print density by print elements in position where print density increases or decreases in the main scanning direction of the side edges of the recording paper.
