The radial spacing between carding segments and cylinder clothing is maintained constant by displacement of slope surfaces (40a'40b') of bearings (40a,40b) along the slope surfaces (41a',41b') of the curved extension pieces (41a,41b) as result of thermal expansion of a fixed carding element or take-off blade or cover. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) carding machine; and (2) apparatus on spinning preparation machine.
