The procedure consists of putting the combustion gases in contact with a solvent that traps acid compounds to produce a purified gas containing a solvent loaded with acid compounds. This is put into contact with a non-aqueous ionic liquid containing an ammonium, phosphonium and/or sulfonium cation, and an anion able to form a liquid salt to obtain a purified gas lean in solvent and an ionic liquid loaded with solvent. The solvent contains at least one component selected from glycols, ethers, alcohols, sulfolane, N-methylpyrrolidone, propylene carbonate, amines, amides, ureas, phosphates, carbonates and borates of alcaline metals and water. The anion is selected from groups comprising e.g. halogenide, nitrate, sulfate, phosphate, acetate, halogenoacetates, tetrafluoroborate, tetrachloroborate, and hexafluorophosphate ions.
