The Aeontech net booting product extends upon the WipeDrive Enterprise 8 PXE server in such a way that the PXE-compliant DHCP server also becomes compliant with Apple's Boot Service Discovery Protocol (BSDP) . With a BSDP-compliant server in place, we are able to send an EFI binary to the apple device. The EFI binary we use is iPXE. iPXE is an open source software that allows for customization and scripting to be compiled in. We have customized the iPXE build for use with apple devices, and have scripted a menu system to imitate the standard PXE menu. Once a menu option is chosen, the script configures the network interface of the apple device, and downloads the appropriate Linux kernel and ram disk ready to boot. The script specifies kernel parameters based upon the menu option selected, then boots into the custom built Linux. |
