Disclosed are a method and an apparatus for decomposing waste refrigerant and solidifying a byproduct. The apparatus for decomposing waste refrigerant and solidifying a byproduct comprises: a plasma decomposition device which decomposes a waste refrigerant by generated plasma or plasmatizes gas containing the waste refrigerant to decompose the waste refrigerant, and wherein the waste refrigerant is a compound of one or more among fluorine, chlorofluorocarbon (CFC) containing chlorine, hydrochlorofluorocarbon (FCFC), and hydrofluorocarbon (FFC); and a solidifying device disposed on a position where waste refrigerant gas decomposed by the plasma decomposition device is discharged, wherein the discharged decomposition waste refrigerant gas flows thereinto, and a metal compound is accommodated therein or supplied from the outside to allow the metal compound to come in contact with the discharged decomposition waste refrigerant gas to react with the discharged decomposition waste refrigerant gas to produce a metal compound of fluorine or chlorine.
