PURPOSE:To retrieve easily a desired document from fragmentary information by storing words expressing concepts and the envelop interrelationship of all concepts and providing respective means storing any other relationships except the envelope interrelationship. CONSTITUTION:When desired information is retrieved and displayed from documents of picture information, it is fixed on a terminal 200 with conversation for retrieval,and displayed on a CRT 500. Where a hard copy is desired, it is outputted through a printer 750. Existence information on the fixed document is read out of a file 420, and transmitted as the read control command of an optical disk to an optical disk control circuit 455 through a bus adapter 805. The read-out picture data is provisionally stored in a memory 350, and a picture on a displayed page is sequentially decoded by an IP 600. A mouse 230 can position both a CRT 210 and the CRT 500, and indicates the display position of a picture image on the CRT 500.
