Production of thin slabs in a continuous casting installation

The method for producing thin slabs in a continuous casting installation provided, in particular, with a vertical mould is characterized by the following facts: a) the first slab guide segment (0) positioned vertically below the mould is dedicated solely to reduction of the slab thickness; b) the segment (1) located directly after the segment (0) bends the slab over several bending points into a circular arc; c) before complete solidification the slab is bent back over several straightening points into a straight, horizontally oriented slab. Also claimed is a corresponding casting apparatus.
