PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To suppress a surge phenomenon in an air passage corresponding to the lower end part of a crossflow fan used in a vertical arrangement by making a space between a part opposed to the lower part of the crossflow fan in the tongue part of an outdoor machine for an air conditioner and the crossflow fan narrower than other part. SOLUTION: A heat exchanger 3 is provided in a part opposed to an air inlet formed on the two side surfaces of a casing 1. Multiple crossflow fans 4 are provided in a part opposed to an air inlet 9 formed in the corner part so 1d of the front surface 1a of the casing 1 and the other side surface 1c so as to direct vertically its rotation axis. On the outer peripheral side of the crossflow fan 4 is provided a fan guide 7 having a tongue part 8 by which a high pressure side is separated from a low pressure side. Thus, a space between a part opposed to the lower part of the crossflow fan 4 in the tongue part 8 and the crossflow fan 4 is made narrower than a space Do in other upper space.
