Tissue fibrosis inhibiting agents comprising an arginine-degrading enzyme, a variant or a modified derivative thereof as an active ingredient. The tissue fibrosis inhibiting agents of the present invention are useful for preventing and treating tissue fibrosis and excellent in stability in blood and delivery to internal organs. The present invention also provides DNA molecules comprising the nucleotide sequence of SEQ ID NO: 7 or 9, DNA molecules which hybridize with the DNA molecules under stringent conditions and which encode a human arginase having a tissue fibrosis inhibiting activity, recombinant vectors containing the DNA molecules, transformants obtained by introducing the recombinant vectors into hosts, and a method of producing a human arginase, which comprises culturing the transformant in a medium to produce and accumulate a human arginase in the culture and recovering the human arginase from the culture. <IMAGE>
