PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an acceleration sensor with a high degree of arrangement freedom in which the direction of detecting acceleration is not limited and which is capable of detecting the least biaxial direction and magnitude of acceleration. SOLUTION: Gel 3 is filled in the case 2 of an acceleration sensor 1. Particles 4 with a higher refractive index and density than those of the gel 3 are uniformly dispersed in the gel 3. When acceleration is impressed on the case 2, the high-density particles 4 are moved in the low-density gel 3 to generate the concentration distribution of the particles 4 according to the direction and magnitude of the acceleration. With this state maintained, light S is emitted for irradiation from a light source 5, and the light S is refracted to the high- concentration side of the particles 4 and is received by a light receiving element 6 formed of a two-dimensional CCD. The light receiving element 6 outputs an output signal on the basis of the location of light reception, and the biaxial direction and magnitude of the acceleration are detected on the basis of the output signal. |
