A sub-surface vertical water drainage shaft has a flush-fitted shaft cover located within a surrounding frame. The frame has an inner transverse member with a trap hole for a locking signal pin inserted from above through the cover. The locking signal pin is destroyed by removal. Further claimed is a commensurate shaft cover.
