Control method involves detection of vertically directed motion of preceding vehicle (2) by means of motion detection sensor. Control variable is determined for control element by vibration damper on the basis of the detected vertical motion of the preceding vehicle. Control variable is transmitted to the control element of the vibration damper for adjustment of determinable dampening behavior of vibration damper.
