A coupling 10 for attaching to the arm 56 of an excavator or other plant machine comprises a body 12 defining a c-shaped slot 14 which communicates at its first end with an exterior of the body 12 and which is closed at its second end. A gate 22 is rotatably mounted to the body 12 at the first end of the slot 14 to normally close the slots, the gate member comprising a recess 28 which may be brought into communication with the slot 14 by rotation of the gate 22 relative to the body 12. The coupling 10 can be fastened to the eye 52 of a chain which is used to lift heavy objects. The rotational nature of the gate 22 alleviates the risk that the gate 22 may unintentionally release the chain. The orientation of the c-shaped slot 14 ensures that the chain is normally held away from the gate 22 to alleviate the risk of any strain being applied to the gate 22. The gate may be locked in its retention position. |
