Disclosed are a device and method for performing a task of an electronic device. A mobile terminal includes: a communication interface which receives state information of an electronic device from the electronic device; and a processor which determines whether to enable the electronic device or the mobile terminal to perform a specific task based on the state information of the electronic device and state information of the mobile terminal and notifies the determination result to the electronic device through the communication interface. The state information includes at least one of the battery state of the electronic device, processor performance, and communication state.
