A method and apparatus determines a physical location of a wireless infrastructure device. At least one coarse location data from an associated terminal device is determined. Additional coarse location data are stored and accumulated. The device location is considered accurate by determining that enough received coarse location data has been received.

1. A method comprising:
detecting a triggering event for determining a physical location of a wireless device; responsive to detecting the triggering event, the wireless device determining if a stand-alone location method is available; responsive to determining that the stand-alone method is unavailable, determining a plurality of coarse locations of the wireless device; determining a refined location estimate of the wireless device based on the determined plurality of coarse locations of the wireless device; and storing the determined refined location estimate as the physical location of the wireless device.
