The invention relates to a basket container which can be collapsed to form a very small bundle, is not provided with pressure closures, is made of plastic or light metal in a skeleton form, and serves, in particular, as a shape-adapting insert for shopping trolleys. This provides the user with the convenience of being able to convey the articles directly from the point of purchase or sale, that is to say without repacking them into bags, boxes, etc. To protect the articles located in the shopping basket from the influences of the weather and the like, a covering cloth which can be removed from a guide bar is mounted on one wall of the basket. The shopping basket made in two designs has different carrying devices, namely carrying handles or one displaceable carrying bar (handle). By three rows of hinges arranged in each case vertically on the end walls and connecting the side walls without corner closures, the shopping basket is unrestricted in the size and surface design of all wall parts and the bottom insert for the collapsing process. Operating the basket container, e.g. for the collapsing operation, takes place only after pulling up the bottom part and pushing down the carrying handles (large basket) or pushing in the carrying bar (small basket) by lightly pressing in the end walls.
