PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a detecting device which is easily installed and maintained and high in precision and can detect an object such as a tire. SOLUTION: The photodetection position of photodetected reflected light is different among a case wherein light is projected on a road surface 12 on which a vehicle 4 is absent, a case wherein the light is projected on a tire 15 of the vehicle 44 on the road surface 12, and a case wherein the light is projected on the body 17 of the vehicle 14 on the road surface 12, so reference position data corresponding to the object of detection is previously stored and position data on a measured reflection point is compared with the stored reference position data to decide that the object of detection is present when both the position data are sufficiently similar to each other.
