SUBSTANCE: dilthiazem is prepared by reacting cis -(+)-hydroxy-5-[2-(dimethyl-5-(2-(dimethylamino)- ethyl]-2,3-dihydro-2-(4-methoxyphenyl)benzothiazepin- 4(5H)-one prepared by reaction of cis-(+)-3-hydroxy-2-(4- methoxyphenyl)benzothiazepine-4(5H)-one with 2- chloroethyl dimethylamine in mixture of toluene and N- methylpyrrolidin-2-one in the presence of finely ground sodium carbonate and acetic anhydride.
