PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an ink which, even when used in long-time ink jet recording with a system in which the ink is delivered by means of a heater, exerts little influence such as a change in an ink delivery performance on the heater. SOLUTION: This ink comprises at least one substance selected from among a dicarboxylic acid, a dicarboxylate, a tricarboxylic acid, and a tricarboxylate; bishydroxyethyl sulfone; a water-soluble colorant; and an aqueous medium. It is desirable that the total amount of the dicarboxylic acid, the dicarboxylate, the tricarboxylic acid, and the tricarboxylate is 0.7 wt.% based on the total weight of the ink.
