PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To suppress unnecessary transmission from a portable telephone terminal by outputting a message of mail arrival from a speaker before transmission to an opposite telephone when an electronic mail addressed to the portable telephone terminal is saved on a mail server. SOLUTION: When the telephone number of an opposite party is inputted, a system control part 201 sends an answer request command as to whether or not a mail is stored to the electronic mail server through an antenna 212. Once information showing the presence of a stored mail is obtained, a voice message showing that the mail is stored is outputted from the speaker 210. The system control part 201 outputs a transmission request for an electronic mail addressed to its terminal to the electronic mail server and expands a sent electronic mail in a RAM 204. When specific operation is done through an operation part 207, a display part 202 displays the electronic mail under the control of a CPU 203.
