The invention relates to a method and a device for transmitting IP data packets from a transmitting unit (1) to a receiving unit (7). The aim of the invention is to provide a means of rapidly transmitting IP data packets from the transmitting router to the receiving router while guaranteeing adequate security for the data transmission. To this end, the IP data packets (IP 1, 1P 2) are linked into DVB sections (DVB 1, DVB 2), transport stream packets (Tr 1, Tr 2, Tr 3) are formed from said DVB sections (DVB 1, DVB 2) by linking the DVB sections (DVB 1, DVB 2) into data parts ( PL 1, PL 2, PL 3) of the transport stream packets, a DVB section (DVB 1) whose length exceeds a predetermined maximum length being divided into several sub-sections (A, B, C) which are each linked into a data part (PL 1, PL 2, PL 3) of a transport stream packet (Tr1, Tr 2, Tr 3), and the resulting transport stream packets (Tr 1, Tr 2, Tr 3) are only sent when the last transport stream packet (Tr 3) has been formed with the last sub-section (C) of the DVB section (DVB 1).
