PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a gear grinding apparatus capable of quantitatively detecting the state of a grinding wheel to surely determine dressing time. SOLUTION: This gear grinding apparatus is provided with an encoder 65 provided on a grinding wheel holder 28 for measuring the rotating position of the grinding wheel 27, an encoder 53 for measuring the rotating position of a drive gear 44, an encoder 37 for measuring the rotating position of a machined gear, and a controller 80 for calculating the synchronous accuracy of the drive gear with the machined gear from signals of the encoder 53 of the drive gear and the encoder 37 of the machined gear, and calculating the synchronous accuracy of the grinding wheel with the machined gear from the signal from the encoder 65 of the grinding wheel holder and the signal of the encoder 37 of the machined gear to calculate a difference between two synchronous accuracies, and informing the dressing time of the grinding wheel when the difference exceeds a threshold.
