The majority of the chain-links are in the form of rings with a circular or oval cross-section. The side of the ring which has a through-hole has a cross-section matching that of the wire from which the ring is bent and interwoven. The chain links may have a polygonal cross-section, are solid or hollow; are made of unrefined or refined metal and have a start and end link.
