PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To positively perform preventive maintenance or repair by the irradiation of laser beams by easily, rapidly and accurately positioning a structure in a reactor by remote operation from above the reactor. SOLUTION: This maintenance and repair device is provided with a device body 9 of long-sized rod shape hung into a reactor pressure vessel 1 of the boiling water reactor from above and vertically arranged at a reactor core part through a grid hole of an upper grid plate and a control rod guide pipe hole 10 of a reactor core support plate 4, and an irradiation head 15 supported on the device body to irradiate a maintenance or repair object part of the structure in the reactor with laser beams transmitted from a laser oscillator. The device body 9 has a vertical drive mechanism 16, a turning drive mechanism 17 and a longitudinal drive mechanism 18 for putting the irradiation head in vertical operation in the reactor, in turning operation around the axis of the device body and in advance/retreat operation from the device body, respectively by remote operation. The respective mechanisms and the irradiation head are constituted to be enclosable inside the outer peripheral surface of the device body 9.
