PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a dial operating mechanism for an electronic device which has much more enhanced operability by equipping a dial operating member that allows a turning input operation and a rocking input operation and an electronic device with the dial operating mechanism. SOLUTION: The dial operating mechanism for an electronic device of the invention is provided with: a dial operating member that can be turned and rocked; dial turning detection means for detecting a turning of the dial operating member; dial rocking direction detection means for detecting a rocking of the dial operating member; and an illumination part which is illuminated by a light emitted from a light emitting part. A display mode of the illumination part which is illuminated by a light emitted from the light emitting part is changed according to a turning or a rocking of the dial operating member.
