PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of detecting overlapping feed of originals and reducing a time for re-reading the originals attended therewith. SOLUTION: The draft reading apparatus includes an original tray on which a plurality of the originals can be placed, an original feed for feeding the originals placed on the original tray in the order of reading, an overlapping feed sensor for sensing the overlapping feed of the fed originals, an original reader for reading an image of an original when the fed original passes through the original reader, an image storage section for storing image data of the read image, and an image control unit for controlling the reading of the image data and the storage of the image data to the image storage. The image control unit of the draft reading apparatus stores the image data in response to the region of the earliest original in the overlappingly fed originals to the image storage when the overlapping feed of the originals is sensed and requests re-feeding of paper for reading the original other than the earliest original.
