PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a shot peening method, smoothing the surface roughness projection of a metallic product subjected to various kinds of treatment without causing cutting due to shot peening in a surface to be treated and without requiring enormous energy in a method in which the surface roughness projection of the metallic produce subjected to various treatment is smoothed by shot peening. SOLUTION: A shot, which has a hardness equal to or lower than 2/3 of the surface hardness of the treated metallic product and has a particle diameter ranging from 1.0 to 3.0 mm, is projected on the surface of the treated metallic product at a speed of 30 to 70 m/sec.
