The present invention specifically relates to a method for connecting a trailing end of a leading metal strip to a leading end of a trailing metal strip in a strip treatment plant wherein the leading metal strip and the trailing metal strip are positioned up and down each other such that the trailing end of the leading metal strip and the leading end of the trailing metal strip overlaps each other; and connected to each other in several points of the overlap portion through clinching connection even without cutting the strips. A thickness of the end portion of the leading metal strip and/or a thickness of the leading end of the trailing metal strip are measured before connection, and the clinching operation is controlled by a function of the measured thickness(es).
