PURPOSE:To set curved areas for breakage of a module cover, in parts which were planed during designing an air bag by making the rigidity of a part of the module cover around the edge thereof higher than the other part of the same, and by setting the curved areas around the boundaries of the parts. CONSTITUTION:A module cover 18 which is manufactured by a dichroic process, is composed of an inner layer 30 made of hard resin, and an outer layer 32 made of low rigid resin. Further, the inner layer 30 has thick and highly rigid parts along an upright pieces 16 of a retainer 10 and in a part of an overhang section 18a, and the part above them is thin. When an inflator 22 is operated so that an air bag 12 develops, the module cover 13 is broken along a tear line 28, and broken pieces are curved along the boundary A between the thin part and the thick part as shown by the two-dot chain line 18'. Further, since the broken pieces are curved above the overhang section 18a, the bulged part 18 does never make contact with a body cover 34 laid therebelow. |
