PURPOSE:To automatize work of polishing cut surfaces of books and to improve the work environment by providing a means for feeding a plurality of volumes of the books piled together in three crossed directions on a horizontal surface and respective sand paper belts for polishing the cut surface of the books interposed under pressure by a press device. CONSTITUTION:In a book held under pressure by the first press 6, a cut surface of upper or lower end face of the book is polished by an endless sand paper belt 7. Here, also an adhesive agent of hot melt or the like adhering to a binding part of the book is simultaneously polished to form a lump of the adhesive agent into streak shape on the sand paper belt 7, but this lump is scraped off by a brush 8 provided in the rear end. Next, this book, after returned to a crossing part 5, is fed to the second press 10 by the second pressing plate 9 to polish a cut surface of a spread at this time. Then, this book is fed to the third press 12 to polish the rest of upper/lower end faces. |
