<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a chemical for inkjet recording paper, with which water resistance is improved and favorable light resistance and color developing properties are given, and an inkjet recording paper employing the same. <P>SOLUTION: The chemical for inkjet recording paper a diallylamine-based cationic copolymer having a constitutional unit (a) represented by general formula (I) and/or general formula (II) (wherein R<SP>1</SP>and R<SP>2</SP>are 1-10C alkyl group, 5-10C cycloalkyl group or 7-10C aralkyl group, X<SP>a-</SP>is an anion, a is the number of valences of the anion) and a constitutional unit (b) derived from (meth) acrylamide. The molar ratio of the constitutional unit (a) to the constitutional unit (b) is 95:5 to 50:50, and the weight average molecular weight is 2,000 to 15,000.
