A modular control room console for a nuclear power plant comprises a series of panels, each panel including a vertical portion 74 mounting monitoring and display devices, and a lower portion 76 mounting control interfaces 86. The monitoring and display devices include a large central display 84 for displaying intergrated images textual information regarding monitoring and control of the plant, and a plurality of smaller interface devices 80, 82. A first kind 80 of the smaller interface device generates images of alarm tiles which can be activated in response to alarm conditions.
