Method of, and apparatus for, presenting bags (4) for the packaging of products such as cheese characterised by the steps of manipulating the bag externally using a hinged flap (17) and a gripping device (7) of vacuum cups holding the top surface of the bag so that the mouth of the bag is at least partially open, and inserting a spreading device which includes at least two horizontal spreading members (30, 31) into the at least partially and sufficiently open mouth of the bag, and moving apart the spreading members t o further open the bag, and inserting a product into the bag via the now open mouth of the bag.
