PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enable a double layer type die coater for forming a coating film on a strip-like substrate such as a steel plate to provide a coated face with even coating film thickness even on a substrate having an edge drop part and to easily carry out design coating in the production of multiple types and small lot sizes. SOLUTION: This die coater is a double layer type die coater provided with manifolds 20, 26 for two coating material storage formed in the inside and made of a first metal material 14, a second metal material 16, and a third metal material 18 and two slots 24, 30 which are spaces formed between the respective metal materials and respectively spray coating materials from the respectively communicated manifolds 20, 26. Auxiliary lips 56, 68 made of strip- like members are respectively installed in the respective tip end lip parts 4, 6 of the first metal material 14 and the second metal material 16 and gaps between the respective auxiliary lips 56, 68 and the strip-like substrate are kept constant in the whole length in the direction of the coating width.
