摘要 Short circuits at the stator windings of a synchronous machine can produce very high short circuit torque that can damage the machine. Lower short circuit torque is achieved by firstly having two or more electrically isolated three-phase systems. By having more than one three-phase system, the power of the generator is divided into the number of three-phase systems. Hence, in a machine with 2 three-phase systems, each system carriers only 50% of the rated power. So, at the event of a short circuit, only half the short circuit moment can occur. Also, by having the rotor to be of arrow-like shape, magnetic flux is allowed to be distributed along adjacent grooves. Therefore, at the event of a short circuit, the better distribution of the magnetic flux allows for a better flux decoupling, and lower short circuit torque.
