<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an identification number setting method which automatically sets an identification number to each information processing device connected in a daisy chain. <P>SOLUTION: When receiving an "ID=N setting command" from a higher-order coordinates input device, a coordinates input device sets "ID=N" as an identification number (S11). The coordinates input device determines whether a lower-order coordinates input device is connected (S12). If the lower-order coordinates input device is connected, the coordinates input device transmits an "ID=N+1 setting command" to the lower-order coordinates input device (S13). The coordinates input device determines whether it receives a "MAX=M setting command" from the lower-order coordinates input device in a prescribed period of time after the transmission of the ID setting command (S14).
