PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image processing apparatus which inhibits beforehand "white stripe" or "dark stripe" which is not known without printing, and to provide the breakdown detection method of an LED chip for it.

SOLUTION: The image processing apparatus comprising an LED printer head (LPH) 110 consisting of two or more LED chips 101 comprises: a current-voltage conversion circuit 360 which converts the driving current of each LED chip at light emission into the voltage by measuring; a voltage integrating circuit 370 which integrates the voltage value from the current-voltage conversion circuit; a driving pattern generation circuit 310 which forms the driving pattern for the breakdown detection corresponding to the LED chip reducing by half one by one; and a comparison circuit 380 which compares the voltage value from the voltage integrating circuit with an expected value and judges the breakdown of the portion of the light emitting section of an LED chips group corresponding to the driving pattern.
