A refrigerator and a control method thereof are provided to allow the user to set a desired time and mode of the display device and reset the display device at the minimum screen brightness after the set time is passed, thereby reducing the energy consumption. A refrigerator comprises a refrigerator door, and a display device which is formed on the refrigerator door and outputs image and sound. The display device includes a display unit(102) in which video signal is displayed as screen, an input unit(101) which receives time and display mode as input, a controller(30) which controls the screen of the display unit according to the time and the display mode inputted to the input unit. The controller creates a window, asking whether the user watches more, on the display unit when the inputted time has passed so that the display unit is maintained at the highest bright if one button of the window and the screen is turned off if the other button is selected.
