A preparation method of a catalytic carrier is provided to effectively improve a cell clogging phenomenon conventionally generated due to alien substances during purification of exhaust gas by forming the cells such that sectional areas of the cells at the inlet side of respective cells are increased, and thicknesses of cell walls are reduced. In a preparation method of a catalytic carrier(10) for purification of automobile exhaust gas, comprising a molding step of molding a carrier shape in which cells(11) and cell walls(12) are formed by passing a carrier raw material(1) through a mold(23), thereby extruding the carrier raw material by an extruder(20), a preparation method of a catalytic carrier for suppressing a cell clogging phenomenon generated due to alien substances is characterized in that the molding step comprises: mounting a dissimilar cell forming die(26) from which pin parts(26b) inserted into the respective cells of the molded carrier are projected on a rear end of a guide for guiding the molded carrier passing through the mold, thereby molding the carrier in such a shape that sectional areas of the cells are increased, and thicknesses of cell walls are reduced in a predetermined section of an inlet side of the molded carrier compared with a residual section of the carrier while the pin parts of the dissimilar cell forming die are inserted into the respective cells of the carrier. |
