<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an imaging apparatus which can focus even on an object of low luminance with high precision. <P>SOLUTION: The imaging apparatus comprises: an imaging section having a mechanism for altering the number of pixels where a plurality of pixels are arranged on a plane receiving the object light, a light receiving signal corresponding to the object light is created by each pixel and the light receiving signals are added for every predetermined number of pixels; a photography optical system for forming the image of object light on the light receiving plane and having a means for moving the focal position of the image; a photometry section for determining the brightness of object light; a section for adjusting the number of pixels to which the light receiving signal is added at the imaging section to increase more for a darker part depending on the brightness determined at the photometry section by the alteration mechanism, and a section for determining contrast of object light on the light receiving plane based on the light receiving signal added at the imaging section and adjusting the focal position by the moving mechanism based on that contrast. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2007,JPO&INPIT |
